Kykeon™ (Traditional)

Product

Using the traditional recipe of roasted spring barley and wild mountain mint, we have resurrected Kykeon, an ancient Greek tisane, for the first time in modern history. In fact, Kykeon, has not been sold for over two thousand years. In ancient Greece, Kykeon was commonly drunk to break fasts and was noted for its digestive properties. Nutty, refreshing and delicately minty, we have carefully sourced and blended our ingredients to ensure each sip has the best flavour and health benefits, encapsulating ancient Greek history and tradition.

Naturally grown without the use of any pesticides or chemicals, our roasted spring barley is harvested 1,200 - 1,500m above sea level from the Zangezur Mountains of Armenia. Only the outer husks have been removed (and the barley itself has not been pearled), which means higher nutritional content within each grain. Our spring barley is lightly roasted to bring out the earth, nutty and sweet flavours. Once in the UK, the ingredients are blended in accordance to our secret award-winning recipe. Kykeon may be drunk hot or ice-cold, and may be enjoyed before a meal to aid digestion or during or after exercise for increased hydration.

Deliveries outside the UK are available on request, please contact us with your delivery address and order, as we will be able to arrange international delivery via standard postal service or courier.

Please note the pouches are not airtight, and therefore once opened, your tisane should be transferred to an airtight caddy or storage jar in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odours. We do not recommend glass, plastic and paper containers.

  • Our wild mountain mint is hand-harvested from its native habitat in the Lori region of Armenia, by the residents of the village of Odzun, supervised by an ethnobotanist, taking into account the time of day and time of year to keep the aroma and active ingredients at their best. The grassy green leaves are dried in the shade under the ceramic roof of a natural drier to preserve the quality, essential oils and taste. The leaves are then milled slightly by hand to allow greater extraction of essential oils with every infusion.

Brewing Instructions

Use 5g for every 200ml of 100°C spring water and let this herbal infusion steep, ideally for 7 – 10 minutes, to fully unfold its natural flavour.

Caddy 180g makes approx. *36 cups
Caddy Refill Pouch 180g makes approx. *36 cups

*Estimations are based on drinking the traditional Armenian way, where one portion will give you at least two cups – just refill with 100°C water and steep for two minutes longer than the original brew time.

Just amazing! We serve it at our coffee shop Kanenas in Ealing, London, and everyone simply loves it. So refreshing, unusual, delicious. We do up to three infusions, and every brew tastes so different (in a wonderful way!). Couldn't recommend enough!
