The most citrusy in flavour of all herbal infusions, our organic lemon verbena is distinctively pungent, with grassy, herbal and refreshingly crisp lemon notes. Our whole leaf Great Taste award-winning whole leaf lemon verbena is naturally grown in the alpine areas of northern Naxos around Koronos village, approximately 700-800m above sea level and is handpicked and dried by the villagers using traditional methods. Compared to standard lemon verbena, our lemon verbena is greener and more crisp in flavour, due to purer growing conditions and the micro-climate of the Cycladi Islands - literally the greenest lemon verbena you'll ever come across.

Lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora), also known as louisa, lemon beebrush or verveine citronnelle, is native to South America and was brought to Europe by the Spanish and the Portuguese in the 17th century for cultivation. The essential oil of lemon verbena was used in perfumery and in soap making, and to this day is used by famous French brands, as one of the signature scents of Provenance. The scent of lemon verbena has been popular over hundreds of years, with ladies during the Victorian era in the US sewing leaves into their dresses, tucking them into handkerchiefs and floating them in finger bowls of water.

Throughout the ages lemon verbena has been used in South American traditional medicine for fevers, treating colds, indigestion, spasms, anxiety and insomnia. Lemon verbena contains various essential oils such as citral, nerol and geraniol. Recent research has gone into demonstrating the powerful anti-inflammatory effects of citral and for it to be a potential new antimicrobial agent that is not an antibiotic. In addition, numerous clinical studies have been conducted on the potential anti-inflammatory and antidepressant activity of geraniol.
Lemon verbena is the most intensely lemon-flavoured infusion, a perfect alternative to lemongrass or lemon balm, and may be drunk after a meal to aid digestion, or just before bedtime to relax.
Delivery time 1 - 5 working days, after the day of despatch. Order before 2pm on a working day for same day despatch.
